On a personal note:
I've always been drawn to the academic side of psychology, but it was through psychological assessment that I found a way to blend my love of writing with a practical approach to helping people. Over the past twenty years, I have moved beyond a strictly clinical model, continuously refining my reports to provide a comprehensive picture of the whole person. Rather than focusing solely on challenges or behavioral differences, I strive to highlight strengths and unique abilities, offering a balanced perspective that empowers individuals and their families. This dedication has been strengthened by parenting my two children and working in many academic settings with different types of learners.
Working closely with schools and families, I have learned how to create meaningful roadmaps that help clients plan for their future, seek accommodations, and find ways to reach their goals with the support and empathy they deserve. My dissertation focused on parenting children with autism, and since then, my understanding has deepened into a more inclusive diagnostic perspective—especially regarding girls, adults, and the often-overlooked roles of masking and demand avoidance. These complexities can be challenging to detect, but recognizing them is essential in providing accurate and compassionate assessments.
I remain committed to ongoing learning, regularly exploring various treatment approaches, evidence-based options, and the latest research from scholars in the field, individuals with lived experience, and professionals such as speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and special education teachers. I aim to provide assessments that identify needs and offer meaningful insights and practical strategies that help individuals thrive.
